PhD Graduate – Cambridge International Trust Scholar, NIH-Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Programme
Professional/Educational Background:
I completed a B.S in Neuroscience at George Mason University prior to undertaking an MPhil in Medical Science (Psychiatry) with Prof. Fletcher and Dr Hisham Ziauddeen. In 2016, I began my PhD in Psychiatry as a part of the NIH-Oxford-Cambridge Scholars programme, and I was supervised by Prof. Fletcher and Dr Ziauddeen in Cambridge and Drs Monique Ernst and Christian Grillon at the National Institute of Mental Health
Work-related Interests:
I am interested in the neurobiology of eating disorders. It is increasingly recognized that disorders like anorexia nervosa are characterized by both psychological disturbances, as well as altered metabolic functioning. However, interactions between metabolic and cognitive processes in these patients remain poorly understood. I aim to combine cognitive neuroscience and integrative physiology techniques to identify mechanisms by which peripheral metabolic functioning relates to higher-order cognition and feeding behaviour in healthy and affected individuals. To date, this work has primarily focused on how the experience of stress affects gut-brain signalling and cognition in anorexia and bulimia nervosa
Non-work-related Interests:
Spending time with friends
Running
Horseback riding
